From: Marts on 27 Mar 2010 18:42 I wanted to listen to this http://www.3aw.com.au/blogs/3aw-breakfast-blog/breakfast-investigates-ryan-cook-case/20100323-qrss.html However, when the page opens in Firefox (Ver 3.5.8) it tells me that the Apple Quicktime plugin is missing. It then asks me to find and install it. However, after following the prompts, all I get is a small window that opens which says: Window title: Plugin Finder Service No plugins were installed. Apple Quicktime Not Available Manual Install Then, buttons at the bottom, "Back, Finish, Cancel". The manual install is a link to the QT download site, which I followed, downloaded and installed Quicktime. I thenk reloaded the page in question, but got the same error message. Is there a special way that I have to hold my tongue or something to get this to work?
From: Fred on 27 Mar 2010 20:41 Dunno, I just tried it an the file automatically opened in Windows Media Player served from here. http://media.mytalk.com.au/3AW/AUDIO/230310_Bernie.mp3 "Marts" <marts(a)ymail.com> wrote in message news:v52tq55f8i7f8e4655qo9sdbhk475lokds(a)ymail.com... >I wanted to listen to this > > http://www.3aw.com.au/blogs/3aw-breakfast-blog/breakfast-investigates-ryan-cook-case/20100323-qrss.html > > However, when the page opens in Firefox (Ver 3.5.8) it tells me that the > Apple > Quicktime plugin is missing. When I clicked on the link below (the one about blogs and stuff) it opened a web page with the audio embedded in it. Firefox then asked to install a "missing plugin". I'm not at that particular computer at the moment so I can't try the link that you pointed to. Still, the problem remains - that I cannot get Firefox to install the Quicktime plugin. I dunno what other settings to check. I downloaded and manually installed Quicktime which was the "manual" option. But that just installed the player. Firefox doesn't see it. I forgot to mention - I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium as well. I'm guessing that you don't have the Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin installed on that pc http://port25.technet.com/pages/windows-media-player-firefox-plugin-download.aspx consequently Firefox attempts to play the media through Quicktime which you do have installed but possibly not configured to play the file type because mp3's are associated with Windows Media Player. Or maybe only the Windows plugin will work on that particular page. To check the Quicktime MIME settings Open Quicktime player. Click Edit at the top of the window. Preferences - Quick Time Preferences Browser tab MIME settings at the bottom of the window That's where you see and set the file associations > > (rest of message left for reference) > >> >> "Marts" <marts(a)ymail.com> wrote in message >> news:v52tq55f8i7f8e4655qo9sdbhk475lokds(a)ymail.com... >>> I wanted to listen to this >>> >>> http://www.3aw.com.au/blogs/3aw-breakfast-blog/breakfast-investigates-ryan-cook-case/20100323-qrss.html >>> >>> However, when the page opens in Firefox (Ver 3.5.8) it tells me >>> that the Apple >>> Quicktime plugin is missing.
