Yes, OpenSolaris has pkgadd, but there are at least 2 advantages to
using IPS packaged software on OpenSolaris:

1. There is no patchadd, so you won't be able to install SVR4 patches.
(the SS12u1 in the IPS repo has been updated)
2. Installing SS12u1 from the repo will resolve necessary library,
header, and Java dependencies

If there is no IPS packaged software available, then installing the
SVR4 version is the next best thing. However, there is a SS12u1
version available, so that should be plan A.
