From: BruceL on 20 Jan 2010 12:15 I am using a stand alone desktop for developing and testing apps. I am wondering if I can install the full sql svr 2005 developer edition on this desktop and use it like I would use sql svr express. Is that possible or can I only use sql svr express on a stand alone desktop, meaning the full sql svr 2005 developer edition needs to be installed on a separate server? Thank you for any help. -- BruceL

From: BruceL on 20 Jan 2010 13:36 I am using windows 7 home premium. Actually, I have already installed sql svr 2005 dev edition on the stand alone desktop and it installed OK. I attached a database to it and created a system DSN that says it connected OK but when I test one of my apps it has an opening message that there was an error connecting to the server DB. This error message is one my app generates by trynig to open a table on the server and if it cannot then I list the message to the user. When running this app in the past on my separate server(XP and svr 2003) from another desktop(using XP), I also map the network drive, but on this current stand alone situation I cannot map the network drive because it doesn't include drive C as a drive in the map drive dropdown list? Do I need to do something different to get sql svr 2005 dev edition to connect correctly with my app because the Map Netork Drive doesn't include drice C, where all my file are located? thanks for your response. -- BruceL "Meinolf Weber [MVP-DS]" wrote: > Hello BruceL, > > Which OS version is installed on the machine you are using? > > See here the requirements: > http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2005/en/us/system-requirements.aspx#ws > > Best regards > > Meinolf Weber > Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers > no rights. > ** Please do NOT email, only reply to Newsgroups > ** HELP us help YOU!!! http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm > > > > I am using a stand alone desktop for developing and testing apps.
