Mike,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_service
is a good article...

why do they have to wrap what is relatively simple in such horrendous
and with never ending changes in tla's or even etla's

tla:=three letter acronym tho' in my view anagram might be more
suitable
etla:=extended tla [aka a 4la - wrong ! thats only three !]

in the end we come back to an html form with post get and put etc !

which in my view makes php the development language of choice for a
web server

Rubbish - php is too hard... java is too hard. Productivity in both
domains is too low hence for the commercial developer, read that as too
expensive. For the hobbyist or backyarder, it won't matter.

We just use C# for everything now. Convenient, consistent, one platform,
as fully capable as the other options, reusable as COM or CLR inside sql
server... the positives list just goes on without there being negatives.

Interesting.

Well that just means they haven't progressed at all. They've replaced
one version oriented framework with another.

If they provided YOU with the WS then you're ok. You just consume the
ws, generating code from wsdl's as needed. That makes sense. MS did this
with sharepoint. We can write against the object model API should we
wish to or we can use the ws. But the ws option isolates us from version
shock and it isolates our dev environment from their operational one.

Good luck.

Geoff

hello,

Now I'm migrating all my applications VO (pos, medical, pets, hhrr,
churchs, etc) to php+java+mysql+ajax: it has been difficult but there
are tons of pages with help.

And now I move faster in this environment that VO.
