-some- ... after searching on: Indiana Solaris vs Opensolaris, I
found quite a bit of "I say this, you say that" discussions like this
one:

http://fixunix.com/solaris/391331-opensolaris-vs-solaris.html

could you plase direct me to some current info on that matter?

Bummer!

But is the kernel the same in say, Solaris 10 10 11/06 and
OpenSolaris 2009.06, so that you may be able to use a knoppix-like
bootfrom feature and free the CD-drive or could you at least use such
a feature using OpenSolaris LiveCD? Where can I find the cheatcodes
for OpenSolaris LiveCD?

and thinking of those that may find this thread; from

http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/data/sol/systems/views/all_desktops_certified.model.page1.html

you will find out that many of the certified PCs have been tested
both on Solaris and OpenSolaris

I still have my doubts since I have read about ZFS being somewhat
picky about/faulty with some hardware, so I still wonder how did these
commercial SATA drives dealt with ZFS

Do you know of best practices installating in a multiboot fashion
Solaris + OpenSolaris + FreeBSD + Linux + ... + some Windows version
in PC hardware?

Thanks

Check out the forums on opensolaris.org.

Definitely not (and not just because Solaris 11/06 is at least three years
older than 2009.06...)

LiveCD is a function of the userland of the OS. And for your exam you need
to learn the Sol10 userland. What would be the point of hacking it into
something different? It'd invalidate what you're trying to learn.

You could ask on opensolaris-help on opensolaris.org. But, seriously, I'd
just install a virtual machine.

What do you mean by "a LiveCD option"?

FWIW Solaris has not been distributed on CD for two or three years now.
You can download CD images and burn your own if you wish.

I found it easier and simpler to replace my CD-ROM drives with DVD
drives and install from the DVD.

Why don't you consult the HCL?

The Graphics cards for PCs have the life span of the average fruit fly.
Whatever you buy, it will be obsolete by the time it's delivered! If
the manufacturer can't supply a Solaris driver for the video, forget it!
