Click PowerPoint Orb, PowerPoint Options, Save, Save AutoRecover information
every ... minutes. Set for 10 by default but may not be turned on by
default. It only works if you have already saved the work at least once.
It is useful if you inadvertently crash out of PPT. Don't know if it works
by keeping a file there after you close out PPT normally without that all
important final save.

It only recovers files after a crash (and as you say, only after at least
one save), not after a normal close where you forget to save. Common
misconception amongst users that causes a real headache for helpdesk staff

In a way it is a shame that PPT doesn't have the option to "Always create a
backup copy" like Word can be set to do. If that was available and turned
on you would always have one good copy of the file (before the last failed
save) that could be opened and used. I have had the auto recovery fail me
in the past.

Looks like MS got rid of Fast Saves in PPT 2007 which also caused a lot of
problems for me with large complex files in previous versions of PPT and
Word especially with networked files.

'Fat' Saves is still there but is no longer turned on by default thankfully.
