The move to an online forums application for community support has many
benefits. Perhaps most appealing is the notion that "we own the app".

What a brazen attempt to pass their dominate everything ideology off as a
benefit to users! Much of what they say the forums can do could have been
adapted for use in NNTP formats. This is yet another example of MS thinking
that everybody loves rich internet apps. To turn a phrase:

Microsoft is as Microsoft does....

So as I understand it, MS is dropping NNTP completely. Not just THIS
newsgroup, but ALL of them.

Can anybody honestly say they DIDN'T see this coming? It was just a question
of when.

Learn .Net, post on MSFT's web boards to pad your post count. Kiss the butts of posters like Bill McCarthy and Paul Clement, maybe do a specialized web log concerning some *current* MSFT technology. Basically, a lot of sucking up.

I guess it's back to the alts. At least we won't be filtered and can use harsh language again. I'd happily put together something to replace this community, but ultimately it would be web based, which no one likes.

Devs like Inno have their own newsgroups. What would be involved with doing something along those lines and moderating it ourselves?

That article seems to imply there will be an alternative. Would they really devote resources to moving this group?

I did notice recently this particular newsgroup can be accessed via the www, through the MSFT web site. Let's say, just for chuckles, MSFT gives VB6 it's own forum, and is moderated by folks like Clement and McCarthy. Would any of you participate?

I don't think I would. I would never allow myself to be moderated not only by MSFT, but by the likes of MSFT kiss @$$es, IOW the aforementioned losers. They would filter and control every little thing we said or did...which they cannot do here, but would clearly like to.

So, c'mon Karl...you're like a top dog here. Where will you go next?
