Using xprosp2 this update will not install. I use Norton PF and AV. The
installation window appears, says it is beginning to install, then freezes
(nothing shows on the progress bar) for an extended period of time. I am not
a pro, and I cannot pick out the error on the WU log. This also happens with
the latest Malicous Software Tool update. Seven other updates which were
issued at the same time as KB88302 installed without a problem. I tried
installing them separately but had the same result. I would be grateful for
any suggestion.

Probably better to look for clues in the KB888302.log anyway.

What version of srvsvc.dll do you have?
Actually it would probably be a good idea to search for *all*
instances of that module and take note of the version in each
location. Whatever mix of versions you have may indicate
how far the update progressed.

I, too, am having a curious problem. KB888302 is the only update I
cannot download and install (all the other February updates and
KB887742 installed automatically today without a hitch). It doesn't
matter if I use automatic update or manual - it still fails and
clicking on the fail link yields, "error message 0x80070003." The
recommended fix from Microsoft is to edit the registry, but my current
keys are already set to the correct values. The computer is an older
HP desktop running XP-Home SP2 and Norton Internet Security 2003 (ran a
virus check within the past five days and is A-OK). I also ran a
spyware check and it came up clean. I'm sure somebody out there has a
whiz-bang answer...
