My mum has Live Messenger on her PC and when I'm on my PC I keep getting a
message every five minutes to say she has signed in. She can't speak to
anyone on Messenger because she doesn't receive all messages sent to her due
to Messenger disconnecting and then signing her back in again every five
minutes.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

I've tried re-installing Messenger on her PC and its doesn't seem to have
made a difference.

Is she using wireless connection? perhaps its the Internet connection thats
dropping not Messenger?

She isn't using a wireless connection. She has broadband with Tiscali and I
thought at first it would be the internet connection but I don't know of any
way to test it.

It happens every four to five minutes, all the time. She is also always
browsing websites at the same time or playing MSN games online and it doesn't
seem to disrupt those in any way.

She does use Tiscali. Is that where the problem lies?

Have you found anything else out since/spoken to Tiscali?

Also do you know if using an older version of Messenger would solve the
problem?
