From: shrink4g on 22 Dec 2009 23:17 I just upgrade to 64 bits W7 and looking for couple of programs: automatic defrag and web browser. In the previous OS, I have used IOBit & Firefox. They perform well for what they do in the 32bit world. Unfortunately these program do not exist in 64bits, I have searched. I would be glad to hear your recommendation. Thanks.

Why do you think they must be 64-bit programs? You think the hard drive suddenly changed from some 32-bit interface to a 64-bit interface? Why does it matter if the web browser is a 32- or 64-bit application? You think it matters to the web sites to which you connect?

MyDefrag (http://www.mydefrag.com/) has 32-bit and 64-bit versions. The installer automatically detects which is appropriate. 64-bit builds of Firefox exist (http://www.mozilla-x86-64.com/), but most likely you really don't want one since there are very few 64-bit plugins available.

Since the OS is 64bit, I would like to have programs run in their native environment to avoid incompatibility issue. Wouldn't you think this is a good starting point? Anyhow someone here did say 32bit FF can work perfectly well with 64bit OS. So I did give it a try, and to be honest I had not run in any problem so far. To your questions concerning the browser, agree 32bit would do the job. I am not so sure that your argument would well fit other programs.
