From: mike on 20 Jan 2010 11:55 Laptop CD drives have a standard, I think, connector with an intermediate board to convert to whatever makes it proprietary to the laptop. Is this a standard IDE interface? Pinout? I want to build a connector that can hook to a usb/ide converter for testing CD drives in the field. Googling got me nowhere 'cause I don't know what to call it. Pointers? Thanks, mike

All of the ones I have seen are generic slimline PATA connector. They may have an adapter between the drive and the motherboard though. I suppose there is or will be some with SATA connectors. -- Bill Asus EEE PC 702G4 ~ 2GB RAM ~ 16GB-SDHC Xandros Linux (build 2007-10-19 13:03)

From: Barry Watzman on 20 Jan 2010 23:48 Laptop IDE optical drives standard IDE interface but with a different connector (note that some laptop optical drives are now SATA instead of IDE). You can buy adapters on E-Bay for a couple bucks (literally) that will adapt the laptop IDE thin-line optical drives to a standard desktop 40-pin IDE connector. mike wrote: > Laptop CD drives have a standard, I think, connector with > an intermediate board to convert to whatever makes it proprietary to the > laptop. > Is this a standard IDE interface?
