From: S. B. Gray on 16 May 2010 05:56 Can anyone tell me why there is no WYSIWYG interface for Latex? Any time I want to publish a paper I have to relearn it again, since I publish rarely. I would gladly use MS Word if the math journals would accept it. And is there any movement to accepting Mathematica output, properly formatted? Steve Gray
From: J. McKenzie Alexander on 16 May 2010 08:51 Have you tried LyX? It's a front end to TeX/LaTeX that many people find use= ful. Another program which you might try is TeXMacs. In my experience (I've= tried both, briefly), I was sort of torn: LyX seemed to work better, but T= eXMacs provided a proper WYSIWYG display. The downside to TeXMacs, I found,= was the lack of suitable documentation. It was also slow and somewhat bugg= y, but this was several years ago and I would expect it to have improved si= nce. There are some commercial front ends as well, if you feel like paying. LyX: http://www.lyx.org/ TeXMacs: http://www.texmacs.org/ Cheers, Jason On 16 May 2010, at 10:56, S. B. I agree with the positive comments others have made about using Lyx as a front-end for generating LaTeX. I usually don't look at the LaTeX it generates - it just works, and it's free. If only there was a seamless interface between Lyx and Mathematica. OO "S. B.
