Yup, ditto.

For what its worth, we run an AV on our Samba/CIFS server but that's
more about being a good netizen(tm) than "protection."

Good point. I take it "I'm OK: Sod you!" is not your MO then. :)

I'm not sure if my position warrants it, but will give it some thought.
I may give ClamAV or something a spin anyway, as "good netizenship(tm)"
is something worthy to champion; for the greater good and all that.

It's an interesting call. It does prevent some people some pain, I'm
sure, but it also helps enable them to run an OS that's riddled with
holes without worrying enough about it. If it's the same IT dept that
has to do the worrying, I guess that's not an issue.

Course, another reason to use it on a server is to catch things before
they use up all your bandwidth and bog your disks down, in case there's
a flooding worm.
