From: Ron Patterson on 27 Apr 2010 02:58 I did a fresh install of Win XP Pro 3 days ago as Administrator only with no users and no passwords. No problems. I could boot up and windows would load fully with no log on screen. Just the way I wanted. Boot up - leave the room - come back and it is up and running. Without doing anything except full updates, suddenly when Windows boots I have a log in screen to Ron Patterson (me) user account. If I Start\Run "control userpasswords2" to boot to admin acct. - when it boots up only @ 30% of my programs are installed and none of my previous settings. How does Windows XP take it upon itself to suddenly create a user account? How can I get it to boot up to my settings like it used to without a log on screen? I have Googled and read most everything on this and can't find an easy solution. ps - tweakit did not help. Ron Patterson
From: Unknown on 27 Apr 2010 10:25 My suggestion would be to go to control panel--user accounts and set up there. From: Daave on 28 Apr 2010 11:27 The built-in Administrator account is *not* intended to be used the way you describe. If you didn't recently create a new profile called "Ron Patterson," surely you did this while you were setting up Windows XP. Windows XP doesn't do this on its own! If you want to live life on the edge, you can just use the Ron Patterson profile, making it administrative-level and with no password if you wish, and not requiring logon so after booting up, your desktop loads just as you describe. From: Ron Patterson on 28 Apr 2010 22:48 Au contraire - after installation it ran for 4 days with no user ccount - just like I prefer. Out of no where the user account appeared along with some "ASP." account . I suspect a Windows update did this. From: Andy on 29 Apr 2010 01:56 asp is windows support and tech support files. and even though you might not have a log on it defaults to the admin user account. unless you create a different one:) -- AL'S COMPUTERS "Ron Patterson" <a.baba(a)mindspring.com> wrote in message news:W_KdnVnlSNjjZUXWnZ2dnUVZ_jqdnZ2d(a)earthlink.com... > Au contraire - after installation it ran for 4 days with no user > count - just like I prefer.
