From: Ian on 6 Apr 2010 10:44 Hi Carl_B, Simmilar problem here in the UK. I am wondering whether my Quick Parts are being stored elsewhere. In my case, I have created my own template for use by others, and stored the Quick Parts in this template. If I open the template they are there However, when making changes to this template, I am unable to directly save the file (as a template) since Word wants to save a document-that-is-based-on-the-template rather than an updated template. Instead, I have to explicitly "Save As..." and then choose Word template as the document type. But then, of course, Word won't let me save to the current template because it is open, so I have to choose a different filename. When I open this new template, it has lost the Quick Parts I had earlier created. It is as though Word (or the Building Blocks Organizer) is not changing the location of the Quick Parts. Rename a template file and the Building Blocks Organizer shows the new location of the Quick Parts, but "Save As" a new template and it doesn't. At best, quirky, at worst, buggy. Still trying to find a solution... When you first create a Quick Part, there is a dialog for supplying its name, gallery, and category, and there is also a box labeled "Save in". That defaults to Building Blocks.dotx, but the dropdown also gives you the choice of Normal.dotm or (if you are editing another template or a document based on another template) the current template. You would have to select the proper template explicitly. If the Quick Parts are in Building Blocks.dotx or Normal.dotm, you can move it to the other template. First open the other template or a document based on it. Open the Building Blocks Organizer from the dropdown on the Quick Parts button. Select the Quick Part to move and click the Edit Properties button, change the Save In setting, and click OK. On closing the document, confirm that you want to save the change. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit. You could try zipping the template and attaching the zip file to the email. That has the small advantage that a zip file automatically includes a CRC checksum, so if the file is being changed in any way by the email transport, it will report a mismatch. Also, what happens if you copy the template to some removable media, delete it from your hard drive, and then copy it back to the same folder? Do the quick parts stay or disappear? The part I find most mystifying is when one quick part disappears and the other one does not. Is it always the same one?
