From: Jim Thompson on 22 Jun 2010 19:40 I've had a request to quote the design of a pin-for-pin replacement of the MAX4581. Not being on the buying side of such stuff, is this really a hard-to-get part? It's not a terribly difficult thing to design (I did the ON-Semi re-do of the 4051-52-53 series many years ago), but I'm suspicious that I'm being used as a price-reduction tool :-) ...Jim Thompson -- | James E.Thompson, CTO | mens | | Analog Innovations, Inc. | et | | Analog/Mixed-Signal ASIC's and Discrete Systems | manus | | Phoenix, Arizona 85048 Skype: Contacts Only | | | Voice:(480)460-2350 Fax: Available upon request | Brass Rat | | E-mail Icon at http://www.analog-innovations.com | 1962 | I love to cook with wine. Maxim shows them as still in production as well http://www.maxim-ic.com/datasheet/index.mvp/id/1851/t/al so I think your suspicions are correct.

So if they're $0.63 in 1k quantities... and Jim can spin a design such that they cost, oh, say, $0.33... seems like someone must be using upwards of 100k/year to make it worth the NRE costs? Intriguing...
