As for the computer slowing down, have you considered creating separate user profiles for each of the people who use the PC and assigning them only the rights they need? While the people who've pointed out that merely downloading stuff won't cause slowdowns, I think they're overlooking the obvious: who downloads stuff just for the ... what? Thrill of it? Surely they're installing what they download, and that can indeed slow down the computer over time. At least with separate profiles, you can blow away THEIR stuff and not have to toss your own.

I usually burn the expanded install directory to DVD or CD. Also make a file there with a copy of your Product Key. That should be in the email that you got confirming the purchase. Then when you need to reinstall, just run the setup application from the DVD or CD. A large percentage of complaints we get here are from people who either lost their install media, their Product Key, or both.
