From: GDKTN on 29 Mar 2010 05:18 I get an alert box from MS Office that states "The global template, NORMAL.DOT, is already open as an add-in program." every time I open Word. I want to get rid of this.
From: Graham Mayor on 29 Mar 2010 06:34 Normal.dot is the normal template (for Word versions up to 2003). It should be in the user templates folder and if you have not changed the location where Word stores its templates you can find it by typing %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Templates in the Address bar of Explorer. If as the message indicates you have a copy of normal.dot in the Word or Office startup folder, then it will load it as an add-in and there will be a conflict with the normal template as indicated by the message. You need to ensure that you have only one normal template in your Windows profile and it must be in the indicated folder. remove or rename any others that you might find. You also need to remove any hidden lock files - see http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm -- <>>< ><<> ><<> <>>< ><<> <>>< <>><<> Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org <>>< ><<> ><<> <>>< ><<> <>>< <>><<> "GDKTN" <GDKTN(a)discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:513D2E5B-2826-4C84-8326-5AA728CCCCE0(a)microsoft.com... >I get an alert box from MS Office that states "The global template, > NORMAL.DOT, is already open as an add-in program." every time I open Word. > I > want to get rid of this.
