Rename calc.exe to calc.txt and type calc.txt in a command prompt. Text files get executed when this is done from a command-prompt. The same thing happens when the file is renamed with any extension. The command-prompt looks at the contents of the file and then opens the file based upon the contents, rather than the extension. Also, mspaint.exe opens .wmf files but can not save to that type of file. The latest .wmf exploits involve viewing .wmf files, of which only a few anti-virus products detect currently... Furthermore, mspaint.exe will open a renamed .wmf file without any problem for instance, novirus.wmf renamed as novirus.bmp? Jim Carlock Post replies to the newsgroup.
