Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, it doesn't solve the problem
on a Windows shared volume, but I'm really glad to know about this
program for future reference.

Meanwhile, though, I've also followed John Halloran's suggestion to try
Path Finder, and... IT WORKS! Well, at least in my home, where I'm
trying to simulate the office setup as best I can. I'll find out
tomorrow morning if it works for my client and report back here later.
