Some modern NiCds can hold their charge for over a year - the HP32E I have in the desk here is living proof of that. I just bought a `no obvious brand' battery pack for a cordless phone from Maplins, reworked it so I could stick two of the three cells in my HP32E[1], and - well, I've never seen the like, holding charge that long. btw, I *think* they're NiCds, not absolutely sure. Nickel metal hydride loses its charge quite quickly - but there are specials that claim to hold charge for much much longer. Lead acid: well characterised self-discharge rate, expect to need to re-charge every month or so if out of use IIRC. Check maker's data sheet... And lead acid cells are about 2V nominal each. ObMac: lead-acid Cyclon cells are what you need to revamp yer Mac Portable's battery pack. Rowland. [1] Which takes cells that are `AA diameter and AA long, less the knob on the end'. -- Remove the animal for email address: rowland.mcdonnell(a)dog.physics.org Sorry - the spam got to me http://www.mag-uk.org http://www.bmf.co.uk UK biker?
