From: JP on 26 Apr 2010 22:12 The Keyboad for my HP Desktop PC hit the dust when some pins on the adapter plug broke. I have a "like new" old Magitronic FK-2001 keyboard that I tried to use. I have a 5 pin Din Plug adapter which changes it to a 6 pin Mini DIN plug that plugs right in to the desktop. Some lights light up, but no response. There is an adjustment for PC/AT, PSII or for a PC/XY. Can I use this keyboard or should I get a used one at a garage sale? JP

Try it with the switch set to either PC/AT or PS/2, but you may have to reboot if after changing the setting. I seriously doubt that PC/XT mode will work, but some keyboards automatically choose the right setting, regardless of the switch position. Also some old keyboards aren't compatible with all mobos -- I had two that were the same model, but only one worked with a certain computer because internally the keyboard electronics were very different. If your broken keyboard is something special, you can fix it with a cord from a PS/2 mouse, but you'll have to match up the wires, and you can't assume that the colors of the individual wires go to the same places.
