From: Brian M Davis on 17 Jul 2010 14:42 I recently created an Internet Tools folder within my Applications folder and moved Mail to Applications/Internet Tools. Since then, the Mail icon in my wife's account has disappeared from her dock. When I open Mail from the Applications folder it appears on the dock but there is no "Keep In Dock" option and it disappears when I close the program. I have since been informed that it isn't advisable to relocate the Apple programs because they may not update correctly. I assumed that this was the problem and moved Mail back to its original location; however, the problem with Mail on my wife's account still exists. Thank you in advance for sharing your knowledge in helping me correct this issue.

The way you deal with it is to either reboot, or kill Dock and restart it. Activity Monitor (in utilities) will let you kill it. Then you go to your Disk -> System -> Library -> Core Components and click on Dock.App to restart it.

Quitting (even force quitting) in AM closes the dock but it opens immediately on its own without clicking on the Dock.App file.

What are the permissions on ~/Library/Preferences/com.app.dock.plist? It sounds like they may have gotten set to read-only. Or maybe it's gotten corrupted, you could try trashing it. -- Barry Margolin, barmar(a)alum.mit.edu Arlington, MA *** PLEASE post questions in newsgroups, not directly to me *** *** PLEASE don't copy me on replies, I'll read them in the group ***

Permissions are set to Read & Write on both accounts. Do I correctly assume that the file will be recreated after I trash it? |
