Recently replaced a dead eMac with another eMac I got cheap on eBay.
(Please don't make fun of my "dinosaur!") On the old one I could click
once on an email in the Inbox and highlight it. I could then delete it
(or, more accurately, move it to the Trash Folder) *without* opening the
message. On the newer machine the messages open automatically when I
click on them. Couldn't find anything on this issue in the Mail Support
section of the Apple site. How do I change it back to the former display
method?

X.5.8, Mail v 3.6.

TIA.

Grab the bar that separates the message list pane from the selected
message contents pane and drag it to the bottom of the window,
effecrtively hiding the message contents pane. You will now have to
double-click a message to see it in a new window. Double-click the
little button in the middle of the separator to restore the viewing pane.

Bada-BING. That did it. I've actually done that before but couldn't
remember how. Danke, mein Freund.
