From: ToddAndMargo on 13 Feb 2010 17:44 Hi All, After the 02/09/2010 updates went on, I am getting calls from customers complaining about massive slowdowns. From my initial research, I have found that if I copy a file they are having trouble opening on the network to their desktop, the slowdown vanishes. The slowdown only occurs when trying to open a file, such as an Excel spreadsheet, from the network. What should take 1 second, takes 10 to 15 seconds. Now, two of the three, business users complaining are using Samba (Linux) for their file server. So, no Microsoft patches on those servers. The third business is using peer to peer. All of the workstations are using XP-Pro-SP3. Most of the XP workstations are running Kaspersky Word Space Security (KWSS): kav6.0.4.1212_winwksen.exe. Some prior versions of KWSS too. Both pausing and exiting KWSS does not change the symptom. I am seeing these as the (XP) update on 02/09/2010: KB978706 KB978251 KB975713 KB978262 KB978037 KB971468 KB975560 KB977914 KB977165 <-- heard this one causes BSOD's KB890830 KB905866 KB979099 KB978506 (did I miss any?) I am about to start uninstalling them one at a time, but thought I'd ask the groups first what they thought. Be nice if I only had to uninstall one. Tons of rebooting the other way. :'( Many thanks, -T

From: Russ SBITS.Biz [SBS-MVP] on 13 Feb 2010 18:00 Just to Clarify that Update does NOT cause a BSOD However when a System is Infected with a certain Malware and the update is installed it affects the booting process. Please do not post that this update causes a BSOD It's the Infected PC that causes the issue not the other way around Thanks Russ -- Russell Grover - SBITS.Biz [SBS-MVP] MCP, MCPS, MCNPS, SBSC Microsoft Certified Small Business Specialist 24hr SBS Remote Support - www.SBITS.Biz Question or Second Opinion - www.PersonalITConsultant.com Free Trial Microsoft Online Services - www.Microsoft-Online-Services.com "ToddAndMargo" <ToddAndMargo(a)invalid.com> wrote in message news:eEHbd4PrKHA.4752(a)TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > Hi All, > > After the 02/09/2010 updates went on, I am getting calls > from customers complaining about massive slowdowns. > > From my initial research, I have found that if I copy > a file they are having trouble opening on the network to > their desktop, the slowdown vanishes. From: ToddAndMargo on 13 Feb 2010 18:28 > Please do not post that this update causes a BSOD > It's the Infected PC that causes the issue not the other way around Hi Russ, Do you know which malware is causing the BSOD's with KB977165? Even though I am not getting BSOD's, I'd like to specifically check for it. Many thanks, -T
