Mathematics offers innovative weapons for fighting terrorism
http://www.sciencenews.org/view/feature/id/60711/title/Safety_in_Numbers

On the surface, fighting terrorists with mathematics sounds absurd. Yet
some mathematicians and computer scientists are devising equations and
algorithms that show real promise as terrorism countermeasures. From
simple formulas that focus on mathematical properties underlying
terrorist behavior to immense mega-analyses incorporating billions of
information bits, mathematics is becoming an increasingly important
weapon in the antiterror arsenal.

Good. Then five or six of them could in the
future quit delivering Pizza and get a job in
their fields.

For once you are absolutely correct, Sam. The big problem with
terrorists if trying to figure out who to torture or kill. "Sam" has a
plan. Use mathematics to to scan all of the millions of ways ordinary
people report to the authorities. Use supercomputers and advanced
algorithms at NSA to scan all our conversations, movements, purchases,
political activities, idle comments, internet posts and all the rest
to generate a "profile" locked to each and every Citizen ID number.
When the profile is deemed "homegrown terrorist" they are put on a
watch list which effectively removes all rights from them such as
travel or firearm ownership. If questions remain you interrogate them
with torture and when finished you kill them. "Terrorist" problem
solved by mathematics! I say it's high time we took advantage of the
fact that fully half of the mathematicians employed in the United
States are working at NSA.

Finally! An idea from "Wormley" that everyone can support!

And, of course, JSH knows that terrorism offers innovative weapons for
fighting mathematics.
