From: Anish Prasai on 1 Apr 2010 10:27 Hey All, I am stumped with this problem. Hopefully someone can shed some light into this. I have the following setup: Sony Vaio Z570N: - Core 2 Duo 2.53GHz, 4GB DDR3 RAM, 320GB HDD - Hybrid Graphics (Intel GMA 4500MHD + Nvidia 9300M) - Windows 7 64-bit - Matlab 2009B Student Version I don't have experience this problem with any other applications (at least none that I have noticed), however, Matlab's GUI seems to run very slowly. I had no problems at all on Windows Vista (with Aero and all effects fully enabled for Windows). However, I have tried installing both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7, and this problem exists in both installation. The whole interface aspect of Matlab, whether its browsing through folders in the workspace or copy pasting block diagrams in simulink, all seems to run quite slow. I have run the benchmark.m file written by Mirko I. Hrovat, which he based on the original BENCH routine, and the performance seems to be okay there: LU (0.0639), FFT (0.1092), ODE (0.1959), Sparse (0.2498), 2-D (0.4108), 3-D (0.2452) . So I do not think its an issue with Matlab's number crunching ability (pardon my lingo). I think its an issue related to its graphical rendering ability, for which I believe it uses lot of Java. I have tried maxing out the heap size but that had no affect at all. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
