The MPG is missing from the 'file types' list. I can supposedly add it, but it doesn't stay. I also have this problem with mpeg and exe. I'm thinking of doing a reinstall of XP is the only way to solve this. But am I correct in that MPC does not install? I don't think so. It installs on mine. -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com

I'm thinking of doing a reinstall of XP is the only way to solve this. But am I correct in that MPC does not install? I installed it from these URLs and it was installed in the usual way. In fact I found myself with two installations. K-Lite Mega Codec Pack http://www.codecguide.com/features_mega.htm Media Player Classic http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Media_Player_Classic.htm I suggest you try reinstalling from one of these sites. === Frank Bohan He is truly wise who gains wisdom from another's mishap.

It depends on your computer having various codecs elsewhere installed on your computer before it will play anything. The handy QTime and Real Alternative installations include installation for needed codecs to play various QT or REAL media. Similarly, a full install of MPlayer 64 (3.5MB)from MS will install needed codecs for other Windows Media types .. or the codec install package for MPlay64 from MS (1.3MB).. if you already have the executable. There really is NO such thing as a standalone, single-entity executable to play all the various popular audio and video formats available. There *could* be, no doubt, but the finished size of that executable would be a very large file indeed, as all the needed codecs would need be built- in. There is, however, a very comprehensive package called KMPlayer, which is dependent upon your computer already having DirectShow/DirectSound support installed. It runs rings around MPlayer 6.4 |
