From: 9600 on 19 Jul 2006 16:50 Hello, We own a 2000 seat theater and are going to do a major audio renovation this year. It has 70 ft of cleance between the current rigging points. We have been experimenting with Meyers MILO, EAW KB730, D&B and various other boxes. Since we get a lot of touring act I get to hear many systems. I have to take in a count of processing, EQ and the FOH man. I think 5 midsized line array boxes per side (2 subs on the ground per side) and a center cluster 5 or more depending on which boxes are used. The line arrays will be on chain motors so during small/lower volume shows they can be removed and just the cluster used. I am just looking for other opinions. Any input is appreciated. Mr.P

Line arrays plus a big centre cluster? Wouldn't you be better with a point source array if you're running a wide venue? Turbosound's Aspect is an interesting proposition. -- non potete realmente essere una testa della benzina fino a che non abbiate condotto un Passat TDi

Milo is probably a bit big... my favorite line box is the Renkus Heinz PN/PNX 102LA, the 102LA is kind of similar to the D&B except it has a wider pattern, better HF coupling, and off axis frequency response is far better; none of the EAW linearrays have done much for me... Nexo Geo would be a good option to consider. If you would like further help from a designer/consultant, you may contact me. -- Michael Gaster Live Performance Solutions Inc.

Meyer does seminars, http://www.meyersound.com/events/seminars/ If I were about to do what you're theater is doing I'd go to at least the two day 'Fundamentals of System Design, Implementation, and Optimization' and I'd try very hard to get to the five day 'Comprehensive System Design' seminar. They're free (the SIM seminars farther down don't appear to be free) and chances are you'd get to design your theater's system at the seminar, '...attendees are walked through exercises in which they specify venues and design loudspeaker systems to cover them...' Considering how much your theater is going to spend on a new system a week in Berkeley is probably a good investment, or at least two days in Nashville.
