From: gil_johnson on 17 Jan 2010 22:50 As I write this, there are 8 posts on topic and 22 spams shown on Google Groups. I like comp.unix.programmer, but I would like to find a mirror site with a spam filter, such as gmane.org. I couldn't find CUP on gmane, but I did find a subscription page. Would it be OK to sign this group up? Gil

Usenet newsgroups like c.u.p are neither mailing lists nor web pages (even if Google groups may try to make it look like this). Better get a decent newsreader, you will find a few listed at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Usenet_newsreaders and use a reasonable news server - Xavier Roche recently posted a list of some that do a good job of filtering out spam: | http://news.aioe.org/ | * Filtering, including NoCeM | * Free access (anonymous access) | http://albasani.net/ | * Filtering, including NoCeM | * Free registration | http://www.glorb.com/ | * Filtering | * Paid account | http://individual.net/ | * Filtering | * Paid account | http://news.motzarella.org/ | * Filtering | * Free registration Regards, Jens -- \ Jens Thoms Toerring ___ jt(a)toerring.de \__________________________ http://toerring.de

I have been lazy about setting up a news reader - but Google and Gmane have so many groups listed! The problem is just that you can't find the content in the junk (Google) or figure out the real name of the group (Gmane) Thanks again for the link - Gil
