Mobile headphone or mobile earphone is a pair of listening device
connected to the mobile, used to answer calls as well as listen to the
music stored in the mobile. In mobile headphones the pair of listening
device is joined using a band which is usually mounted on head, whereas
mobile earphone has dual cable and is usually placed in the ear. Both,
earphone and headphone has in-built mike to answer the calls, button to
answer/end the calls and volume control button.

Mobile headphones are of two types: closed and open. Open headphones
have foam pad or ring pad that covers the ears whereas closed
headphones have pads that surround the ear. Outside noise is completely
sealed off in closed headphones, which is not the same in open
headphones. Also, the contact pressure is higher in closed headphone
than in open headphone.
Mobile earphones are of two types, in-ear and ear-bud. In-ear is
inserted in the ear canal whereas ear-buds are inserted in the ear just
outside the ear canal.

Bluetooth mobile headphones or earphones are without any chord, thus
reducing the inconvenience of wires getting entangled, due to which
their demand has been increasing in the market.

The headphones or earphones have to be compatible with the mobile phone
used. It is quiet possible that a person likes a particular make of
mobile headphone or mobile earphone but then it might not be compatible
with the mobile phone he is using. To overcome this problem mobile phone
adaptors are available in the market. Using this adaptor one can use any
mobile headphone or mobile earphone with a mini-jack connected to the
mobile phone.

Advantage of using Mobile earphone over mobile headphone is that mobile
earphones do not interfere with earrings, glasses, hats or hairstyles.
But the disadvantage is that it causes discomfort in the ear if used
extensively. The extended use of mobile headphone or mobile earphone
can damage the eardrum thus creating hearing problems.

Certain points have to be kept in mind while purchasing the mobile
headphone or mobile earphone. No matter how much one decides to spend
on them, but he/she should not forget to check the warranty period.
There is no point in buying cheap ones and having to replace them every
four-six month. Cheap mobile earphones are not durable as they may have
weak cables and poor overall construction. So the important rule to be
followed while buying the mobile headphone or mobile earphone is to see
that they come with decent warranty of at least one year. And this
warranty should cover the damages caused by standard wear and tear.
