From: robert.m on 8 Mar 2007 15:11 Hello! Does anyone know how to install Mustek 1200CU Plus scanner on a Windows 2000 with SP3 computer? I've read manufacturers installation instructions and went through the procedure with 1200CU Plus, 1200CU and 1200 drivers. None of them worked. Installation it self was successful: generic scanning module, twain driver and additional software were installed but after i plugged the scanner in and restarted my computer, it found USB scanner but did not recognize it as 1200CU Plus. The scanner is otherwise functional and not broken. Does anyone have an idea about this? Thank you.

The important thing is does the Scanner Work. -- CSM1 http://www.carlmcmillan.com --

The problem is that Windows does not identify it (the scanner). It acts like I plugged some unknown device and although it sees it is a USB scanner it still asks me to provide it with drivers for the device. Mustek online support says that it is enough to install 1.) Generic scanning module, 2.) Twain driver and 3.) Panel (which is some kind of software for using the scanner) for the scanner to work. > The important thing is does the Scanner Work. Again, yes. I saw it working when I bought it and I thought I will be able to get it to work my self because Mustek had good support. Unfortunately I lost the contact with the guy I bought it from.

Look for an uninstall item on the Start menu of the driver you currently have installed. There may be an item in the Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Use that if the item in the Start Menu is missing. I can give you the address to download the latest drivers for your scanner. Since Mustek asks for the first two letters/digits of the serial number, I can not confirm that the correct software is actually there. http://www.mustek.de/eng_/start_english.htm Click on Drivers. On the next page, first dropdown, choose ScanExpress Series. Click GO. On this page click USB-Port. That will take you to a list of models, one is yours. One very important point, in the installation, you will likely get a screen in Windows XP that says, something to the effect "This driver is not digitally signed", Click "Continue Anyway". You also need some Photo editor/viewer software to access the TWAIN driver and to scan images. If you don't have a Photo Editor, Download the free Irfanview and Plug-ins. http://www.irfanview.net Irfanview has a TWAIN interface for scanners. File > Select Source the first time you use Irfanview with your scanner. Then File > Acquire to open the TWAIN driver. -- CSM1 http://www.carlmcmillan.com --

Thank you. How did you come to idea to look for the drivers at the german site. How did you find them? I tought that I could rely on official mustek site (www.mustek.com) but obviously I was wrong. > One very important point, in the installation, you will likely get a > screen in Windows XP that says, something to the effect "This driver > is not digitally signed", Click "Continue Anyway". This is also clear. I've seen this dialog with other hardware. > You also need some Photo editor/viewer software to access the TWAIN > driver and to scan images. > If you don't have a Photo Editor, Download the free Irfanview and > Plug-ins. http://www.irfanview.net > Irfanview has a TWAIN interface for scanners. I have IrfanView installed along with Photoshop and Abbyy Fine Reader (which is the reason I need the scanner to work). |
