I started with a .pdf, converted to Word, then was tracking changes. At some
point the formatting wasn't working so I reformatted several things (one of
which i'm sure included deleting a page break) so I finished everything and
the document is DONE....except the header is missing. I do not want to start
over, this was hours of work. How do I get the Header back. If I go to view,
header & footer, simply nothing happens.

Click (or double-click, depending on your version of Word) precisely
on the line between two visible pages. (The cursor turns into a waffle
iron.) That's called Show/Hide White Space.

If the header and/or footer is missing, then I'd say the document is
damaged. See http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/CorruptDoc.htm.
