Top unit dvd-rom , second is dvd writer (LG) connected with 40 pin original cable (replaced cd-r burner) in CS (cable select). Is the LG going bad?. Thanks Larry

The "easy fix" that works every now and again is to limber up the drive's mechanism by reading the entirety of a full CD (~700MB). Sometimes this will do it. Other times, you need to get inside and see what's going on. You might find a dust bunny causing problems in some way or another. William
