From: dukiesma1001 on 13 Nov 2009 17:34 Daave, did the 'Run' steps U posted, this is the info listed: Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpclient.010817-118) There's no mention of any SP anywhere in that window. As 4 yor ??? at the end, yes I do have access 2 a cpu that I can burn CDs frm, but the internet connection is via Cable, I don't know if that's the same~difference but it's runs pretty fast & it's had any probs w/ keeping connected. Thank U 4 responding. It's looks like I'll have 2 start frm scratch & install SP1 first, unless you've got any other suggestions. From: peter on 13 Nov 2009 20:30 read the overview section on that ISO page Overview Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) includes all previously released updates for the operating system. This update also includes a small number of new functionalities, which do not significantly change customers' experience with the operating system. This file is a CD image file for users who wish to create an update CD for Windows XP Service Pack 3, for example for offline installation by administrators. only need the SP3 ISO to update evrything to SP3.....it includes SP1+2+3 The only updates missing are the ones out since SP3. I just did this the other day when I removed Vista from my Laptop and reinstalled the original XP that came with the Laptop(no service packs)....then used the SP3 ISO to update. worked without a hitch pk -- If you find a posting or message from me offensive, inappropriate or disruptive, please ignore it. If you dont know how to ignore a posting complain to me and I will be only too happy to demonstrate :-) "dukiesma1001" <dukiesma1001(a)discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:918CEBD4-E9B2-4B68-948D-B0AE0190EDE5(a)microsoft.com... > thank U 4 responding & your suggestion is easy enuff that even I can > understand what your saying. Good information. That means you have XP "Gold" (that is, no Service Pack level). You have several options: 1. Install SP1 and then install SP3. 2. Install SP2 and then install SP3 (better than Option 1). (Unfortunately, SP3 cannot be applied directly to XP Gold. That is, XP must be at SP1 or SP2 in order to install SP3.) 3. Create a new XP installation CD using the "slipstream" method, incorporating (or integrating) SP3, so that you wind up having an installation CD at the SP3 level. Then perform a Clean Install. Option 2 is the best if you don't feel like slipstreaming, Then again, Option 3 is best since you will wind up with an installation CD at the SP3 level, which can be useful to perform either a Clean Install or a Repair Install. For Option 3, here are some useful links: http://www.tacktech.com:80/display.cfm?ttid=295 http://www.nliteos.com/guide/ For Option 2 (which is probably easier), first you need to download and isntall SP2: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=049C9DBE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en After SP2 is installed, then you may download and install SP3: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=5B33B5A8-5E76-401F-BE08-1E1555D4F3D4&displaylang=en Definitely use the PC which has the cable connection (yes, cable is considered broadband, as is DSL) to download these files! Either burn them to a CD or copy them to an external hard drive. Then you will be able to quickly transfer them to your PC. Once SP3 is installed, you still have a whole mess of other security updates to install from Windows Update. Install only the critical or High Priority ones. Also, IE6 should not be upgraded (to IE7 or IE8) until SP3 is installed (for best results). Good luck! dukiesma1001 wrote: > Daave, did the 'Run' steps U posted, this is the info listed: > > Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpclient.010817-118) > > There's no mention of any SP anywhere in that window.
