Prev: After upgrade 2009 to Quicken 2010 can not transfer between accounts
Next: How to enter corporate action (acquisition/merger) which includes BOTH shares and cash parts
From: GSalisbury on 24 Nov 2009 10:24 I presume it doesn't matter but ... Q2009 Dlx R7. A brokerage account was transferred to another. Not being any kind of wizard on such accounts and actions the receiving account is not quite right. A sufficient amount of time and current transaction activity has gone by that I need to fix it by hand. I would like to get a report out on the "from account" that was organized/sub-totaled by Security and contained lines on "open lots" only. From the Investing or the Reports/Investing Menus I can't find a report construction that allows me to restrain the transaction lines to open only. I think I've tried them all but I just can't seem to get what I want. The Account/Overview Tab or the Portfolio Tab with Grouped by set to Accounts allows me to open a Security and only the Open lots are displayed. That's what I want but in report form for all of the Securities. My intent would be restrict it to one account for all dates ending at a fixed date. Is such a report construct available? I plan to then enter/correct the transactions in the "new account" so the Long and Short Term Capital Gains come out better at the end of the year. That's my intent anyway. I hope it's not staring me in the face and I just don't see it! Any ideas on how to get that kind of a report prepared would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Geo. Salisbury Long Valley, NJ

I'm a little confused on just what report you believe you need. But if you are trying to correct problems that only began after you transferred holdings from one Quicken account to another, and you want to know what you held in the OLD account before you transferred the holdings, you could look at the Portfolio tab in the Investing Center; choose a View with the columns that have the info you need (price, # of shares, cost basis, etc.); change the Portfolio "As of" date to the day before the transfer; "Group by" Account; either close all the account folders but the one for the OLD account, or Customize the view to exclude all but the OLD account; click the plus sign beside each security to have Quicken display the lot info; then click File > Print Portfolio. [If you used a "Shares transferred between accounts" transaction to transfer your holdings, that should have produced correct results in the NEW account ... assuming things were correct in the OLD account at the time of the transfer.] -- John Pollard

Looks like I could have also used File > Print Overview when I had the OLD Account "opened" at the Overview Tab. I eventually realized I didn't know what I was doing and now the NEW account has a mixture of Added Lines from my 1st Web Connect ("transfers" from the OLD) and various current activities from subsequent connects. It's just not right. I'm not certain what I did wrong just that I screwed it up. Fortunately (for me) there's few enough lines involved that, with the File > Print..., I can fix it and move on. I appreciate the pointer. Thanks. Geo. |
