You are right. I am going to just tear into it. Do you think I should
just re solder the rf connector where the current problem is or try to
do all the spots under the tuner cover? Can i resolder the rf connector
without removing the cover if I only repaired that?

See if the RF connector seems loose when you move it. If so you just
might get away with just sodering it back to ground which is easy to
do from the outside. Just need to solder the RF connector where it
meets the case of the tuner.
