From: Dave Harry on 20 Jan 2010 01:21 Can't find a NG dedicated to searching... I'm playing with Search Serverer Express and am planning a deployment, but am unsure the hardware. I'm planning to use desktop grade gear - a search server is not mission critical and does not need redundancy, ECC, RAID, etc. My test setup is on an older Core 2 Duo and I notice that I'm _mostly_ CPU bound with little disc / network (single SATA, 1Gbps) activity. The documentation says that the SQL server express component can only use one CPU, but obviously the other components take some as well. What do you think between powerful and cachey Dual core versus a similarly priced (but slightly lower clock rate) Quad? I'd hate to have half a quad sitting unused, but if utilised properly it may really help over a dual core. -- Dave Harry |
