There's a build 396 in the forum, but AFAIK this is a pre-release. NEW PRE-RELEASE version of avast now available for test [5.0.396] <http://forum.avast.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=f3b8e65655f1d9d93bea39922a649906&topic=54581.0> From what I can read in the reactions it's a much better build, but it isn't official. -- s|b

My apologies, I'm mixed up with build 394. Vlk seems to have changed his (394 pre-release) posting to: | Version 5.0.396 has now been released to the general public. | It will solve most of the stability issues related to version 5.0.377. | | Thanks to everyone who helped testing. There's no build 396 at download.com, but majorgeeks.com seems to have one: <http://majorgeeks.com/Avast_Home_Edition_d1968.html> -- s|b

I usually uninstall Norton or McAfee because they are always running scans, etc in the background and usually bring the machines to a crawl. I then install Avast and just use the built-in Windo$ firewall. A more complex firewall is more than most of these people can handle, and all they do is click allow for everything. Might just as well have nothing. Avast does seem to catch more than Norton or McAfee from my view of the infected machines that I clean up. |
