8.5.2

I wish to run a program which specifies
System Requirements Tcl/Tk Version 8.5a6 or greater.
Am I good to go?

As I would interpret "Version 8.5a6" as being the 6th alpha
version on a path from 8.5.0 to 8.5.1.
Am I close to correct?
Thanks

Alphas and Betas come _before_ the releases, so 8.5a6 predates 8.5.0.

Not really. Version 8.5a6 is the 6th alpha (pre) release of 8.5. It is not
anything else. 8.5.0 is already 'newer' than 8.5a6.

no, you're way off :)

8.5a6 is (rather was) the 6th alpha release of 8.5 leading eventually
to 8.5(.0), followed by 8.5.1, 8.5.2, etc.
There are no alpha versions between minor releases.
