From: Ian F. on 5 Jul 2010 14:56 I was thinking of getting one but have heard some bad reports from pals, even though the online reviews seem OK. I've always had good advice here, so is there anyone here who can recommend it, or otherwise? Thanks, Ian --

Hinge may be fragile. N97 mini appears to lack only FM transmit and lasts days on standby. N79 is fully featured, but no qwerty keyboard and the multi-media button falls off and the screen is a bit small. The N8 is due out next month and should address most of these niggles, but with questions on touch screen and OLED long term reliability.

The battery life is no worse than my N96 so far. Heavy use of any smart 'phone will drain the battery quite quickly.

It's a nice phone, seems to get decent signal strength (not quite as good as my Nokia 6310i ... but that's a high standard to match), and has a reasonably intuitive user interface once you get used to it (standard Nokia S60 stuff). She has reported that /very/ occasionally and for no apparent reason it gets into a state in which incoming calls are sent directly to voicemail without the phone even ringing (despite no diverts being set). This is fixed by powering the phone completely off and on again (a reboot, in other words). There has been a recent software upgrade that may have fixed this issue for good. My one criticism is that the touch screen -- which I thought was great wen she got it -- is SO much less responsive than that of my HTC Legend that it now seems almost a pain to use. If I were getting a Nokia today I'd probably get an N900 ... but the N97 is pretty decent. Cheers, Daniel.
