Hi,

Does anyone know a freeware that allows me to count objects in an
image file (jpeg) by clicking on them with the mouse? Preferrably this
would set some kind of marker so that I know I already counted this
object.

The purpose of this would be the counting of cells in saved
microscopic images.

Best regards,
Peter

A couple of suggestions

1. the generic approach
use a graphics application to count pixels.
make a transparent layer
use a brush with a known size each click will add pixels to the layer.
then calculate.
this is a screenshot of the above in Gimp
brush = 100 pixels count = 700 therefore clicks = 7

the advantage of this is you will have a record of your work and you can
return to it if required.

2. A mouse click counting application
a quick search turned this up

have a look at the second image on above.
open image in editor
use brush tool
each mouse click is recorded.

I would google "ocr cell counting" and "biology ocr cell counting" and
pray for a "miracle" .... :)

The second suggestion seems quite a bit easier to me. This is just
what I was looking for. I was thinking there may be a tool that counts
mouse clicks but then I didn't think of the possibility to combine
this with an image editor so that I can see which objects I already
clicked on (i.e. counted).

Thanks a lot for this great tip.

I'm already happy with the solutions Rich suggested. If there is such
a software as described by you, it would probably be very expensive as
most scientific software is even if what it does is very simple.
