I've got fifty bucks to spend if I have to. That's 2.5 times what I
gave to St. Tim's yesterday.

How much money should I spend here, given that a slightly-older version
of the unix specification would fit my needs?

None. Just register, you get a cookie, then you can download the
tarball.

SUSv2: http://www.unix.org/version2/online.html
SUSv3: http://www.unix.org/version3/online.html

Click the "register to read/view or download" links.

SUSv4: http://www.opengroup.org/bookstore/catalog/c082.htm

Click the "See the HTML version on the web" link.

Cheers,

The tarball download for SUSv4 is available now as well, at

http://www.unix.org/2008edition/

Not sure why it doesn't follow the same URL pattern as the
old versions.
