From: zigzagdna on 16 Jul 2010 19:06 I am on HP UNIX 11i. I am looking into whether I should use Oracle 11.1.0.7.1 or Oracle 11.2.0.1. I will not be using any new features of 11.2.0.1; but one concern I have is 11.2 may not have all the bugs fixed up to 11.1.0.7.1 because Oracle has started development Of 11.2 sometime ago and they may not have synched up bugs from 11.1.0.7.1 Since 11.1.0.7.1 has been available for 2+ years, it should be more stable than 11.2.0.1. But in future, Oracle may not fix bugs in 11.1.0.7.1 instead only in 11.2. Appreciate your insights.

I would not be running 11.1.0.7.1 without at least the patchset updates available. We ditched hpux a while back. Lord knows hpux maintenance from Oracle used to be a lot different from what gets delivered these days.

It does have some bugs but we stopped using fetaures which cause bugs. Since Oracle 11.1.0.1 many patch bundles have been applied to bring it 11.1.0.7.1. THe enviornment which I work in; once we use a release 11.1.0.7.1 or 11.2 we do not install any updates; i.e., whatever release we use, we are stuck to it for next 5 years; because our applicatio vendor charges way too much money to certify from one point release to another. I agree with you on HP Unix support. If I had choice I won't use it either becaise Oracle does not fix problems on it quickly.. |
