From: Mirsky on 2 Aug 2010 04:36 Hi. I just found out about a free antivirus program called iAntiVirus: http://www.iantivirus.com/ Does anyone know if it's any good? I had been using VirusBarrier because I got it free in a software bundle but now it wants money for an update. And by the way, I know Macs don't have viruses. I don't plan to keep the software running in the background, I just have it scan my computer every few months in case I'm harboring a PC virus. But, anyway, I'd like to hear opinions on Iantivirus. Thanks.

I only want to add that it is illogical to suppose that antivirus software on a Mac is even minimally effective against PC viruses and malware. It is good of you to want to protect your PC friends from their liabilities, but only rigorously updated PC anti-malware programs can really be effective. Some administrators require PC anti-virus software on Macs within their realms, but they are clueless, so obey them only if you must. It is a waste of time, space, bandwidth, etc. We can only watch with pity and horror from our Macs and linuxes. And we do. -- ++====+=====+=====+=====+=====+====+====+=====+=====+=====+=====+====++ ||Arnold VICTOR, New York City, i. e., <arvimideQ(a)Wearthlink.net> || ||Arnoldo VIKTORO, Nov-jorkurbo, t. e., <arvimideQ(a)Wearthlink.net> || ||Remove capital letters from e-mail address for correct address/ || || Forigu majusklajn literojn el e-poŝta adreso por ĝusta adreso || ++====+=====+=====+=====+=====+====+====+=====+=====+=====+=====+====++

Most of the time installing an > antivirus package is a waste of time and computer cycles. Not only that, most Mac antivirus software is badly written. Some of the bugs in this software actually interfere with normal operation of Mac OS X, causing problems for users. Running useless software that causes more problems than it fixes is not advised. -- Send responses to the relevant news group rather than email to me.
