Let me tell you something.

I have several EXPENSIVE software programs that claim the ability to
import a PDF and turn it into editable text (e.g., WordPerfect X3,
OmniPage, Iceni Gemini). They're all OK in some ways . . . but they're
all lousy in most ways.

Regarding freeware, I can't recommend the PDF import feature of
OpenOffice nor can I recommend Inkscape.

Even if you find a program that's OK with SOME PDFs, you can bet it will
turn OTHER PDFs into a hopeless mess . . . with no rhyme or reason.

Same company that makes PrimoPDF. A list of their freeware is at:

http://www.nitropdf.com/free/index.htm

(Their PDF Hammer site for editing PDFs seems to be always down.)

No software install required if you use their online converters. This
assumes you are willing to trust a 3rd party with the content of your
document, and give them a valid e-mail address to return the converted
document (which means there are some size restrictions, such as the max
size of an e-mail that you can receive).

Just be damn sure to uncheck the checkbox that has you authorize them to
spam you later with their "news". You might also want to use a
disposable e-mail account or an e-mail alias instead of divulging your
true e-mail address to them.
