From: John on 7 Jun 2010 17:42 Windows Server 2003 R2 with SP2 + the latest patches. This is an AD controller. Would it be ok to manually delete the following folders? C:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig$ (about 990MB) C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall$ (about 500 MB) C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB******$ (total of 400+ MB, where ****** = KB number) I'd like to gain 2GB of free space on my C volume. The free space on C volume is currently at 800MB. If I delete and purge them, will there be any problem (assuming that I don't want to uninstall patches)? Thanks in advance.
From: Meinolf Weber [MVP-DS] on 8 Jun 2010 01:15 Hello John" a, You should keep the $hfmig$ as a recommendation from Microsoft. The others you can remove if you are sure not patches have to be uninstalled. Except then deleting them you can also move them to another disk and in case of needs copy it back to uninstall. From: John on 8 Jun 2010 11:50 Thanks Meinolf. I suppose the following 2 folders are OK to move too? C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstallIDNMitigationAPIs$ C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstallNLSDownlevelMapping$ I've moved a lot of patches folder to an external USB hard drive. The weird thing is, before the move, free space on C volume was around 800MB. After the move, I have 8GB of free space. How's that possible when the data moved is less than 1GB? I know they're compressed folder but the difference is still too high.
