*Sigh* - I knew it was too good to be true... this printer has been
working magnificently for four months, and has today gone weird on me.

I'm sure I remember threads on this group to do with muddy colours on
this model of printer, and that's what's happened today. I had kept the
original diagnostic prints from when I installed the printer so I know
it's not my imagination. The Xerox logo and footer on their pages come
out orange compared to the original saturated scarlet red colour.

I ran the stripes test thing and that has made no difference. The Xerox
site is hopeless, though I have found some documentation. I'll take a
look at that, but I'm pretty sure I also remember someone on this group
having done something to improve the colour balance. Or is this just a
job for the magic service man?

Help!

It was magic service man when it happened to our one.

D'ya know what he did to fix it?

I got a gradual slight improvement on mine by replacing ink sticks at
the last moment, keeping them in their wrapping. I'm a very light user
so they get plenty of time to cook and go stale.

But if it were cheap enough to get it fixed....

Ours was in warranty, so it didn't cost us anything. IIRC he changed the
print head. He tried to blame it on sub-standard inks, but as they were
bought from an approved supplier and carried the magic hologram he
couldn't.

I don't know how easy it is to get the parts, but it did look he
stripped a lot of the machine down to install it, so not a job for the
faint-hearted.

Thanks. I did look at how to change the print head and chickened out.
A new printer is not much more than a complete set of blocks, so I
don't think there is much chance of an out-of-warranty repair being
worth it.

Muddy is the new red!
