From: Nash55 on 27 Jun 2010 15:59 Hi, I hope someone can help me. I have read so many documents and tried so many things that do not work. When I turn on my computer I get this error message about windows defender. Error Code 0x800106ba Application failed to initialize.... I found this article "Article ID: 931849 - Last Review: May 4, 2010 - Revision: 3.0" . I tried everything and nothing worked. I got to the last option, #4 and this file wuaueng.dll was not succefull in running. Here is what the last option # 4 says to do. If this issue is not resolved after you complete step 3, follow this step: Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 file name, and then click OK. Note In this step, file name is a placeholder for the following files. Repeat this procedure for the following files: wuapi.dll wuaueng.dll (would not process) wucltui.dll wups.dll wuweb.dll atl.dll softpub.dll wintrust.dll initpki.dll mssip32.dll Cans someone direct me? I have windows Vista -64 bit. Deb

I have windows Vista -64 bit. wuaueng.dll is something to do with windows update .. so first let's try resetting windows update on your computer. Use the 'fixit' on this page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 Did that fix your problem? If not .. download, install and run superantispyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/ Now uninstall and re-install Windows defender. Download from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx Did it fix your problem?

From: Bill in Co. on 28 Jun 2010 14:24 The simplest solution might be to use System Restore back to a point prior to when this happened. Of course, if you do this, you'd have to reinstall things added since then. But if it was more than a few weeks ago you're probably not going to have this option.
