Has any one created a fast method to determine the area of a polygon?

I saw some methods out there:

Your approach and example is very illustrative and simple. Thank you
for providing it

Hernando,

This link will not materially help you, but I hope you like it nevertheless.
It shows a simple physical instrument for measuring the area of ANY 2
dimensional enclosed shape. And there is the most elegant mathematical proof
of how it works. I made one of these when I was a teenager and it it still
in my garage somewhere.

I have to say Erik's code is almost as elegant but infinitely faster. :o)
